End-to-end control system engineer — from spec to start-up.

I specialise in Topside and Subsea production control systems, with hands-on experience spanning the full project lifecycle: RFQ and specification review, hardware and panel design, network architecture, procurement, I/O list preparation, cable schedules, Pre-FAT, Hardware FAT, and live offshore commissioning.

Having worked across two leading energy companies — Proserv Operations and Aker Solutions — I've collaborated with cross-functional teams in the UK, Norway, and India, and delivered projects on compressed schedules where production uptime is directly tied to cost.

I combine deep technical rigour with strong project communication, and I bring the same discipline to a lone engineering problem as I do to leading a team of eight.

Hardware Design

Cabinet and panel layouts, I/O module specification, signal converter selection, redundancy planning, BOM generation.

Network Architecture

Multi-level control networks, fieldbuses, third-party datalinks, and cybersecurity-compliant network design.

Field Commissioning

Pre-FAT, Hardware FAT, Software FAT, I/O verification, site walk-downs, and live offshore start-up supervision.

Team Leadership

Led and mentored 8 engineers on complex international projects; coordinated across UK, Norway, and India teams.

Professional History

Proserv Operations Subsea Controls & Automation Engineer
March 2023 – Present
Greenfield Brownfield LSTK Gulf of Mexico Hardware FAT
  • Delivered end-to-end hardware design and project engineering for Topside and Subsea production control system packages on Greenfield and Brownfield projects — from RFQ through panel integration, FAT, and offshore site commissioning.
  • Designed control system cabinet and panel layouts; specified I/O module types and signal converters based on field device specifications and P&IDs; planned I/O assignments and redundancy levels.
  • Designed multi-level network architecture covering control networks, fieldbuses, and datalinks to third-party devices; ensured cybersecurity compliance within the network design.
  • Built detailed Bills of Material (BOM) in collaboration with manufacturing and procurement; defined specifications for control system components and buyout items to meet cost and schedule targets.
  • Performed site walk-downs, prepared IO lists, IO assignment sheets, cable schedules, and engineering documentation in accordance with project standards and customer specifications.
  • Led Pre-FAT, Hardware FAT, and Software FAT with customers; coordinated with project teams to close punch lists prior to panel shipment.
  • Supervised control system installation, commissioning, and start-up on live offshore projects (Gulf of Mexico) where production downtime had direct cost impact.
  • Prepared Technical Queries (TQs), commissioning documents, progress reports, and engineering deliverables for management, client, and customer review.
  • Identified and raised technical risks during execution and site activities; maintained efficiency under pressure on high-stakes offshore projects with compressed schedules.
Aker Solutions Software Engineer → Software Engineer III
October 2018 – March 2023
Allen-Bradley PLC HMI Development Team Lead International Projects
  • Designed hardware configurations and developed control system software for subsea DCS-equivalent automation systems using Allen-Bradley PLC platforms; prepared system architecture documents, I/O lists, and cable schedules for multi-system platforms.
  • Reviewed P&IDs and electrical schematics to define I/O assignments; specified I/O modules and signal conditioning hardware; prepared BOM and documentation in compliance with customer technical specifications and ISA/SAMA standards.
  • Developed and reviewed PLC/HMI programs and control strategies; performed functional I/O testing as part of Pre-FAT and FAT processes.
  • Established a quality tracking system for all installed control system deliverables, embedding documentation discipline across proposals, service, and quality departments.
  • Promoted to Senior Control Systems Engineer; led and mentored a team of 8 engineers on complex international projects; coordinated across teams in the UK, Norway, and India.
  • Supported the proposals team by estimating engineering hours, reviewing technical proposals, and providing consultancy on scope and risk — covering the full project lifecycle from RFQ through execution.
